One of the most common upgrades in a kitchen is the change from standard to soft close. But what does that change mean? and why is everyone paying the extra cost for soft close drawers?

STANDARD DRAWERS:
One of the biggest reasons standard drawers are still selected is due to cost. With fewer functions, they are cheaper to manufacture and therefore cost you, the clients, less. If your kitchen only has a single bank of drawers this might not add up to much, but if there are many it definitely becomes a factor in the decision.

SOFT CLOSE DRAWERS:
There are so many benefits to soft close! When you push a drawer to shut, the running mechanisms are designed to catch the drawer in the last moment, slowing its speed and shutting it gently. As a result, soft close drawers shut quietly, and perfectly every time. Essentially, they are both "soft" for they are quiet (both in the actual drawer being shut, and those items within them) and "self" closing, for they close on there own. Designed to be used within households, these drawers even handle it with kids slam the drawers shut!
The only downside to soft close is their cost: being more than the standard drawer systems, if you have many banks of drawers within your project you will notice the increase in cost.

A lot of people love the soft close - for the consistently quiet and gentle automatic close every time! It is just a matter of deciding if the additional cost is worth it for your project or not.
